The Shaun Guier and David Scharlau Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in January 2002. The fund is in memory of Shaun Guier and David Scharlau.
Shaun, the son of Marvin and Kathy Guier, was born on June 13, 1977 and died on August 7, 1993 . Dr. Guier was Sr. Pastor at Christ Church from June 1990 – June 1997.
Marvin and Kathy continue to worship at Christ Church.
David, the son of Will and Kathy Nieberding was born on April 11, 1976 and died on January 25, 2001. Will and Kathy are faithful, active members at Christ Church.
Shaun and David were both very active participants of the Christ Church Youth Ministry.
On New Year’s Eve, 2001 a group of family and friends, sitting around the dining room table began to discuss an Advent devotional that had been read on Christmas Eve at Christ Church. The devotional was written and read by a young woman whose parents had limited their family Christmas gift giving in order to help educate less fortunate persons. Out of this discussion came the idea to start a scholarship fund in memory of David and Shaun. The group committed to establish a fund and raise money to support the fund in ways that would not conflict with other programs at Christ Church. A Board of Directors was formed and the first fund raiser was planned for a 50th Birthday Party. In lieu of gifts, the guests were encouraged to donate to the scholarship fund. Over $4,000 was donated for this event. Many Christ Church members and their families and friends now donate money to the scholarship fund to honor others for birthdays and Christmas. The fund also receives donations in memory of loved ones.
