Christ United Methodist Church Family,
Every year it amazes me how quickly the summer passes. I’m sure the summer passes even more quickly for our children, youth and teachers!
I was please to assist Amy Ruppersberg, our Director of Children’s Ministry, with our annual Blessing of the Backpacks this past Sunday, August 7. Some have asked that I share the blessing prayers we prayed over our students and teachers to use in prayer throughout the school year. That is a wonderful idea and our litany we used in our backpack blessing service is below. Thank you are your continued support and prayers for our CUMC students and teachers!
Backpack Blessing 2022
Today our students and teachers are receiving a gift. They are tags that you can attach to your backpacks. The tags have these reminders,
Be Loved. Be Kind. Be You.
Also, on the reverse side is reminder that we, Christ United Methodist Church of Farmers Branch are praying for them. These backpacks will contain work to be done, work that's been completed, books to be studied, and the tools to complete homework. Some days, so much stuff will fill these backpacks that the student may find it difficult to carry. On other days, they will be light and nearly empty. But on each and every day, these backpacks represent work required of the students gathered here. And, as in every aspect of our life, we bring these before God for blessing at this time.
Prayer for Students
Lord, bless these backpacks and the children and youth who carry them as they begin yet another year of school. Give them peace when they feel nervous, focus when they feel distracted, energy when they feel tired. Open their minds to the lessons they will learn both in and outside the classroom. Help them to make friends that build one another up and be friends to those who need them. Guide them in making good choices as they grow in wisdom and maturity. Be ever-present with them in the classroom, on the school bus, on the playground, and at home, and may they feel your loving care in all they do. Amen.
Prayer for Teachers
Lord, bless those in the ministry of teaching future generations. As they embark on a new school year, grant them energy, passion, discipline, and endurance for their daily tasks. Infuse their classrooms with an atmosphere of care and mutual respect, that all interactions there will be bathed in patience and understanding. Help their lessons to grow pupils in both knowledge and character. Help us all to support the work these teachers do building up our community and our future. Amen.
Hope to see you Sunday!
Peace in Christ,
